A car has crashed through a garden wall and into a shed in Newton Abbot.

It happened yesterday afternoon (18 May) - when the fire service responded to a report of a vehicle fire.

Everyone was safe - but the electric car was badly damaged.

Sharing the story on social media, Newton Abbot Fire Station said: "This afternoon, one appliance from Newton Abbot fire station was mobilised to reports of a vehicle fire within the local area.

"Upon our arrival, crews actually discovered an RTC (Road Traffic Collision) involving one electric vehicle that had gone through a low brick wall and crashed into a shed in a rear garden.

"Thankfully, everyone was already free and clear from the vehicle prior to our arrival, and no injuries had been sustained.

"Crews utilised our MDT (Mobile Data Terminal) to find the isolation locations and killswitchs for the high voltage systems in order to make the vehicle safe.

"Due to the damage sustained, the crew had to use spreading and cutting equipment to remove the bonnet so that they could access these systems. This therefore allowed crews to make the vehicle and scene safe."
