A car which failed to stop in Barnstaple last night (January 28) collided with a 'number' of pedestrians.

Devon and Cornwall Police say the incident happened at approximately half past 11 last night after a black Vauxhall Astra failed to stop for police.

From there, the car was driven down Well Street 'through the tight gap between the building and a bollard' before turning onto Boutport Street.

It was on this road where the car collided with the pedestrians, injuring them in the process, as the vehicle tried to turn around a corner.

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police said: "At approximately 2329 hours on Saturday 28th January 2023, a black Vauxhall Astra failed to stop for police and drove off down Well Street, through the tight gap between the building and a bollard and then turned left along Boutport Street.

"As the vehicle turned the corner it collided with a number of pedestrians causing them injuries.

"Medical treatment was administered soon after the incident by a number of persons including members of the public and emergency service personnel.

"Any witnesses to the collision or anyone with any information relating to the incident are kindly asked to contact Police quoting log 994 28th January 2023."

Police would like to thank the public for their support and patience whilst officers had the road closed.
