Bags containing asbestos have been found dumped in North Devon towns, including near a children's park.

They were thought to have been tipped on either Saturday or Sunday, and the items were reported to Torridge District Council.

The authority says the broken pieces were found in several locations around Bideford and Northam.

In a post on Facebook, the council wrote:

"Asbestos has been left in several locations around Northam and Bideford: Bone Hill Car Park, Lords Meadow and near the children's play area at Diddywell Road.

"Please contact us in confidence if you have any information that may help with our investigation. Call 01237 428700 and ask for 'Environmental Protection' or email environmental.protection@torridge.gov.uk__.

"Please avoid touching asbestos and report it to us straight away! Littering and fly tipping will not be tolerated!"
