A new facility in Devonport, which is expected to bring investment and jobs to the south west is being officially opened.

Babcock and Supacat are building 70 new HMT Jackal 3s for the British Army.

The new facility is going to be named the Raglan Building, in tribute to both the Army and Navy, and in recognition of the nearby Raglan Barracks, which supported British soldiers on their way to overseas operations in the 1800s.

The Jackal 3 has a number of improvements, including better protection for the crew and better load carrying capability.

Working in partnership with the Ministry of Defence at Devonport, Babcock provides through-life support for submarines, surface ships and associated systems and equipment as part of our continuing commitment to support our nation’s naval capability.

The UK base in Devonport Dockyard employs people from across Devon and Cornwall.

Major General Darren Crook CBE, Director for the Land Operating Equipment Centre at Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) said, "This Supacat and Babcock collaboration will deliver modern fighting vehicles for the British Army and our allies, whilst developing and maintaining key land defence engineering skills in a much valued part of South West England.

"It is tangible evidence of the British Army's Land Industrial Strategy, and our purpose for Defence: 'to protect the nation and help it prosper'.
