Devon and Cornwall Police say they were called to reports of suspicious activity by a man in Exhibition Fields, between Exhibition Way and Beacon Heath on Thursday 27 February around 2.45pm.

It was reported that a man approached a mother who was pushing her children in a pram and assaulted her before leaving the scene.

Detectives say they would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the park between 1pm and 3pm that day.

Detective Inspector Dave Ireland said: “Understandably, incidents of this nature can be distressing and cause concern within the community. Fortunately, they are rare.

“Members of the public will see an increased police presence as enquiries are continuing.

“We would like to hear from anyone with information or witnesses who may have seen any suspicious activity around the time of the incident. We are particularly interested in any CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage which may have captured it.”

A suspect has been questioned and released on bail, pending further enquiries.

Anyone who has witnessed the incident or has information or dashcam footage that could help with enquiries are being asked to contact police via the Devon and Cornwall Police website or by calling 101 quoting reference number 50250050710.
