After four people died - including a woman shot by police - the US President’s now promising an orderly transition of power.

Donald Trump’s released a statement following the decision by the US Congress to formally certify Joe Biden's victory in November's election.

The current president's rivals blame him for encouraging rioting yesterday.

President-elect Biden described the crowd as a 'mob' of extremists.

Last night Torbay MP and Home office Minister Kevin Foster tweeted: "For all those who value the Trans-Atlantic alliance and the values we have stood together to defend, today's scenes are tragic and shocking, but American Democracy has survived worse threats and in two weeks' time will have a new President, chosen by the people, to lead it forward."

Torbay Councillor Jermaine Atiya-Alla Tweeted: "The scenes tonight from #WashingtonDC are truly horrifying despite having two weeks in office left what @realDonaldTrumphas done is unpresidential, undemocratic and criminal ! He needs to be removed urgently."
