A38 closed as woman dies in following fatal traffic collision

Devon and Cornwall Police have closed the A38 following a fatal traffic collision that killed a pedestrian south of Exeter.

Police received reports of an incident at around 11pm on Saturday night (May 25th) near the village of Chudleigh Knighton.

Emergency services including ambulances and fire brigades were also called to the scene to help those who required treatment.

Officers have been at the scene since carrying out investigations as enquiries continue into how the crash took place.

A woman has reported to have died, according to the force - and her next of kin has been made aware of her death.

As the investigation continues, the A38 has been closed in both directions. In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police that this road closure was expected to remain in place "for some time".

As a result, the force has urged anyone who is looking to travel along the road to find other alternatives as the investigations continue.

Anyone who may have any information on the crash is being asked to get in touch with the force as soon as possible as officers try to establish the circumstances of the woman's death.

The incident that had been declared by police remains ongoing.
