11-year-old cyclist swerves into River Lew in Cullompton to avoid car

He has suffered serious and life changing injuries

An 11-year-old boy has sustained serious injuries following a crash in Cullompton.

It happened on Sunday 27 February at about 4.20pm on Rocley Lane/Harper's Hill in Northlew. It was by the bridge over the River Lew.

The young cyclist was coming down the hill towards the bridge and had to move out of the way to avoid a blue car on the bridge.

The boy crashed into the hedge and ended up in the river. He suffered serious and life changing injuries.

The car did not stop at the scene. Officers are keen to speak to the driver of the vehicle involved and anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit attended the scene and commenced an investigation to establish the cause of the collision.

Any witnesses who were in the area at the time of the collision, or anyone who may have Dash Cam footage of the incident, are asked to please telephone 101 quoting Log 231 14th March 2022.
