Work to start at Long Hill

It follows a landslip on the Buxton - Whaley Bridge route

Council contractors will start work on Monday 25 April to fix a landslip on the A5004, Long Hill between Buxton and Whaley Bridge.

While the work takes place the road will be closed, with signed diversions in place. It is scheduled to be completed by 25 September.

The road here first moved in 2016 and has steadily got worse so a set of traffic lights were put on the road in December 2019 to keep traffic away from the edge of the road.

The work includes teams digging down to bedrock, around 6 metres below the existing road level and putting in a reinforced earth retaining wall. It has been scheduled to avoid work taking place on the A6 in Buxton, as this is the diversion route.

Contractors working for High Peak Borough Council are building a roundabout on the A6 at the southern end of the golf course to provide access to housing sites at Hogshaw and Waterswallows (Dale Lane).

Most of this work will be taking place at the side of the road, meaning that the A6 won’t be closed while the work on the A5004 takes place, apart from three overnight closures in July, with dates to be confirmed nearer the time.
