Parents have been paying tribute to their daughter who died following a collision near Melbourne.

Phoebe Johnson, from Swadlincote, died tragically after the car, a red Seat Leon, which she was travelling in was involved in a collision on the A514.

The incident happened around 12.30am on Saturday 23 October, near to the junction of Breach Lane.

The 17-year-old was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but sadly died later that day with her parents by her side.

'The pain is relentless'

In a joint statement, they said:

“Phoebe was loved by many and we would like to thank our family and friends for their support, messages, condolences and love at this very difficult time.

“The pain is relentless, but we have found comfort in the people that knew and loved Phoebe.”

Another 17-year-old girl, also thought to have been a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries which are not believed to be serious and has since been discharged.

A 19-year-old woman, believed to be the driver of the car, also suffered non-serious injuries, and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

She has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Derbyshire Constabulary continue to appeal for any witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam footage which could help with their enquiries, but has not yet spoken to officers, to come forward.
