There's an amber weather warning in place for some parts of Derbyshire - with heavy snow expected to cause significant disruption
Last updated 9th Mar 2023
There's an amber weather warning for heavy snow across parts of Derbyshire, with forecasters saying an Arctic blast is drifting over the UK.Â
The warning covers places such as Matlock and Buxton from 3pm - with a yellow weather warning for Derby and other areas in the county already in place.
Roads, especially on higher routes in the Peak District, could close this morning.
Derbyshire County Council have gritters out on all the high routes patrolling and reporting back to them on problem areas.
People are being urged to only travel if necessary - and the message is "please stay at home".
What to expect:
- Travel delays on roads, stranding some vehicles and passengers
- Some delays and cancellations to rail and air travel are likely
- There is a good chance that some rural communities could become cut off
- Power cuts are likely and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
Roads closed:
- The A6024 Holme Moss
- Rushup Edge - Castleton to Chapel road
- Winnat's Pass - Castleton to Chapel road
- A57 Snake Pass (unfortunately matrix signs advising of closure at each end of the pass are not working)
