It's been confirmed that several events will go ahead in South Derbyshire later this year to mark Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.

There will a short Remembrance Service on Armistice Day (November 11) outside Swadlincote Town Hall.

On Remembrance Sunday there will be an outdoor service and wreath laying at the Memorial Gates at Eureka Park.

However, unlike previous years there will no church service or parade due to high Covid-19 case rates.

Councillor Malcolm Gee of South Derbyshire District Council’s Chairman said:

“Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday are both opportunities for South Derbyshire to remember those who have died in war.

“We have made the difficult decision to scale back the events planned this year to protect the safety of residents.

"We would ask anyone planning to attend the events to be mindful of social distancing and also consider taking a lateral flow test before attending.”
