Detectives investigating the death of a 26-year-old man in Whitwell last December are no longer treating it as suspicious.

Officers were called to an alleyway between Station Road and Butt Hill just before 6am on Saturday 10 December.

Toby Ridley, who was local to the area, was found with serious injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance crews.

Detective Inspector Maria Pleace from East Midlands Special Operations Unit said: “Following extensive enquiries which have been taking place since December, we can now confirm that the Toby’s death is not being treated as suspicious and that no further action is being taken in relation to a 28-year-old woman who was initially arrested in connection with his death.

“Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding his death are continuing and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
