Peak Cavern rescue as concert cancelled

A man slipped and ended inches from a 100ft drop

He'd come to attend a gig featuring comedy creation John Shuttleworth at the venue last night (Thursday 19 May).

Although when following his sat nav while walking from overnight accommodation to the cavern had somehow managed to end up on a footpath above the giant cave.

He came into extreme difficulties and slipped, just managing to catch a tree to stop his fall, inches from a 100ft drop to the cavern floor. Unfortunately the concert had to be cancelled, and people had to be evacuated from the area due to the danger of rocks being dislodged onto the concert goers below.

Edale Mountain Rescue Team members made their way to the top and quickly rigged up a technical rope rescue system. Once this was all in place, one of crew were lowered down to the man's position, where he was secured into a rescue nappy.

Apart from suffering a cut and some bruising above one of his eyes, the man was found to be fit and well by paramedics.
