Derbyshire teachers lesson on e-safety has gone global
Last updated 22nd May 2023
A primary school teacher in Derbyshire has been teaching his classroom about online safety.
On the 5th of May, Joe Hall, who teaches at Hayfield Primary, shared a photo to Facebook, and asked people to interact with it, to try and make it go global.
As of today, the post has been shared over 100,000 times and has reached as far as America, Australia and South Africa!
Joe told us why he did this experiment: "Social media and the internet in general is something that I think unless the kids have real life experience of it, it can be a little bit abstract.
"It's all very well you telling them what will happen, but I just think it's better actually showing them what will happen."
Joe said it has travelled the world: "It went to every single continent apart from, Antarctica. It literally went everywhere... Brazil, South Africa, Australia, absolutely tons in America.
"It got to the point where my phone was constantly ringing, I had to turn off notifications because it was more than every second, it was constant, constant, constant, constant. It would not surprise me if it was every state in America."
Joe said the lesson worked well for his classroom: "The main things that it got across to them was that photo can't be deleted.
"I photocopied the image and I gave it to all of them. I told them I want to delete it, and I screwed it up.
"They said they've all got it now, and I told them that is the point, you can't just delete it, now everyday has a copy of it.
"They definitely got the message and I was just really pleased the fact that they were very open and they were happy to discuss it and they've obviously gone home and spoken to their parents about it."
