The mum of a Nottinghamshire man who was stabbed to death in Ilkeston in 2021 says she 'the government need to toughen up' despite a new ban on zombie knives & machetes.

From today, a blanket ban has come into force that means people can't possess or sell zombie-style knives & machetes.

Zoe Cooke's 22-year-old son Byron was murdered in 2021 whilst trying to protect his friend.

She said: "Anything to get knives off our streets is amazing, but I think it should be any kind of knife."

"There should be no reason for that kind of knife to be on our street other than to cause mayhem.

"Knives are genuinely genuinely ruining lives, ruining communities."

She urges parents to check their children’s bedrooms and bags if they suspect they might carry a knife.

"People aren’t aware of what their children are going out with.

"Even the loveliest children out there can be carrying knives through fear.

"The government really really need to toughen up."
