Organised by the Derbyshire Association of Sub Aqua Clubs, it attracts entrants from around the country.

Traditionally held on December 26th, teams brave a stretch of the river between Cawdor Quarry and Cromford Meadows, with a 10am start and thousands of spectators.

Treasurer with the event's organising committee, Stephen Eyre says the race which first took place over 60 years ago has raised lots for charity:

"It was started by a group of divers just intending to float down the river. With it being staged by divers, locals asked if there was a charity they would like to support.

"The Royal National Lifeboat Institution was a natural choice, so to this day the street collection we hold alongside the event is 100% for the RNLI.

"It's raised over £100,000, which we're very proud of."
