A man has been jailed after he punched another man unconscious during an assault in East Staffordshire.

Fabrice Dixon Edward Williams, aged 28, of All Saints Road, Burton-on-Trent, was jailed for two years and one month at Stafford Crown Court on Tuesday (15 November).

He admitted wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and possessing a controlled drug of class B – cannabis.

The court heard how Williams punched a man who was walking along Station Street on 25 March.

They heard how he approached him from behind and punched him once in the face, knocking the victim unconscious in the street.

The victim, a man in his late teens, needed surgery to repair a fractured eye socket, a broken nose, a fractured cheek and damaged teeth.

Staffordshire Police examined CCTV at the scene and arrested Williams on 18 April. During a search of his address, they also found a small quantity of cannabis.

On 14 October, he admitted both offences in court.

Detective Sergeant Oscar Hall, who worked on the case, said: “Williams caused significant physical and mental distress to the victim who was subject to this assault in an unprovoked street attack.

“I’m happy that he has now been rightfully put behind bars and justice has been served.

“We won’t tolerate violence of any level and those who seek to harm others will be robustly dealt with by police.”
