A man has been left in a serious condition in hospital after an assault this morning in Shirebrook.

Police were called to Chestnut Drive just before 7am, finding a man in his 60s injured.

A second man in his 60s has been arrested in connection with what happened and remains in police custody.

Inspector John Troup, of Derbyshire Police said:

“While this will no doubt be a troubling incident to the local community it is understood that this is an isolated event and there is no wider risk to the public.

“Over the coming days there will be an increased police presence in the area as enquiries continue into the circumstances of the incident.

“If you have information, or concerns, about what has happened please talk to the officers.

“Should you not feel comfortable approaching them in person then you can report any details to the force.”
