A man's been airlifted to hospital following an explosion at a house in New Mills.

Emergency services were called to Ollersett Avenue just after 8 o'clock this morning - with fire crews from New Mills, Glossop, Whaley Bridge and Buxton all responding.

12 neighbouring homes have been evacuated as a precaution and a rest centre's been set up at New Mills Leisure Centre.

Other people living nearby who are still in their homes are being urged to keep doors and windows closed.

Emergency crews are working with officials from gas company Cadent to make sure the scene is safe.

The cause of the explosion still isn't known and an investigation is underway.
