Plans to reduce gambling stakes from £100 to £2 in Chesterfield
A consultation on the issue is due to begin later this week
Gambling venues in Chesterfield are to be consulted over plans to reduce the maximum stake on gaming machines from £100 to £2.
Chesterfield Borough Council will hold the consultation between November 25 and December 22 on the change, which relates to Category B2 gaming machines, otherwise known as Fixed Odds Betting Terminals, which have a maximum prize of £500.
The move is in line with Government legislation, introduced in 2019 in a bid to tackle the social and economic problems associated with excessive gambling.
A spokesman for the council said: “The council’s Statement of Principles for the Gambling Act 2005 is required to be reviewed every three years.
“It is due for renewal in 2022, and the licencing committee is now looking to amend its policy in line with these changes.
“As part of this review, the council will also take the opportunity to consult on the policy between 25 November and 22 December 2021.
“We will consult with representatives of the gambling trade including premises licence holders of betting, bingo and similar premises and bodies such as the Gambling Commission and people that are using these establishments.”
