Schools and travel affected across parts of Derbyshire - with the peaks and Dales struggling this morning with the bad weather.

Derbyshire County Council have closed roads over the past 24 hours due to the conditons - with The Snake and winnats pass are just two of the affected routes.

Gritters have been back out in New Mills, Chesterfield and Bolsover as well and are working on roads.

Derbyshire County Council said:

"Motorists are being urged to take care in the north of the county this morning after temperatures dropped lower than forecast overnight resulting in difficult conditions on the roads.

"Having completed a full round of gritting across all primary routes countywide this morning from 4am, gritters will be back out retreating primary routes in our Peak, New Mills, Chesterfield and Bolsover gritting zones from 8am.

"It follows another busy night for the team who were out in force across the county treating primary routes, followed by secondary routes, until around midnight.

"Work to reopen some of the closed roads in the north west of the county will resume later.

"Farmer contractors with JCBs and other equipment will be called in to help clear snow and ice from some of the routes.

"The following roads remain closed in the north west of the county due to snow and ice:

"A57 Snake Pass

"A53 Axe Edge

"A6024 Holme Moss

"A54/A537 Cat and Fiddle

"Rushup Edge

"Winnats Pass

"B5053 (From A515 to Glutton Bridge)

"A5270 Old Coalpit Lane

"A515 Buxton to Ashbourne (passable with care in places)

"A number of schools have contacted us to let us know they will not be opening today or will be opening later than usual. Schools don't have to tell us whether or not they are opening, but those that have are listed on our school closures page.

"Please avoid non-essential travel in the north of the county and take extra care if travelling.

"Our next scheduled update will be at 1pm today."
