Craig Allen from Matlock is setting off today on a 215-mile ultra marathon.

The Race Across Scotland is from Coast-to-Coast and Craig says it will certainly be his biggest challenge to date.

An International field of runners will take on this Scottish National trail taking them from the coastline of Portpatrick, over the mountains, along the valleys, through the forests of the Southern Uplands and along trails steeped in history.

Craig has been running for more than 15 years, running 10kms, to marathon, multi-stage and 100 mile events, completing road and trail races in both the UK and Spain.

Craig said doing the run, whilst raising £10,000 for Dementia UK is important to him: "One of my relatives passed away with the onset of dementia. I realized it can affect any one of us.

"A close friend of mines mum, was diagnosed with dementia. He's joining with his campervan as well. He's going to make sure I keep going."

Craig described himself as 'just an ordinary runner' and has been thankful for all the support so far: "Every day I wake up to WhatsApp messages and different people offering different things for support. Dementia UK have been phenomenal as well in offering their level of support."

I can honestly say I have been so overwhelmed."

Craig hopes to finish the race in 60 hours.
