31 blank firing guns handed into Derbyshire Police during amnesty
The force took part in a national amnesty earlier this year.
Derbyshire Police have revealed 31 blank firing guns were handed in during a recent amnesty across the county.
Police forces nationally encouraged people to hand in the mock weapons made by four Turkish companies.
It's after a study found they were too easy to make into real working guns.
Over 40 such weapons were handed in to South Yorkshire Police as part of the same campaign.
Detective Inspector Christopher Barker, of Derbyshire Police, said: “Thankfully gun related crime is very rare in Derbyshire, but we continue to be proactive in keeping this risk low.
“Even when innocently owned there’s always a possibility of these firers getting into the wrong hands, which is why we encourage anyone thinking of buying any type of firearm to do thorough research and ensure they know how to dispose of it properly if needed.”
“We will continue to work with local partners to tackle organised crime and keep our communities safe.”
