Flooding is causing disruption in the Derbyshire Dales, after heavy rain caused the River Wye to burst its banks.

The A6 is closed in Buxton, due to flooding between the Chelmorton turn off in Blackwell, and Buxton's Morrisons.

Flood alerts are in place, with water levels remaining high.

The Environment Agency says further rainfall is expected in the next 24 hours.

An alert along the Wye in Derbyshire, issued at 8.15am this morning (9th December), reads: 'River levels remain high but are beginning to fall at the Ashford river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

'Consequently, the risk of flooding remains. Areas most at risk are low-lying agricultural land and roads including Ashford and Bakewell areas, and the A6 at Buxton.

'Further rainfall is forecast over the next 12 hours. We expect river levels to remain high. We are closely monitoring the situation.

'Please plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and see the GOV.UK website for a 5 day flood forecast. This message will be updated this evening, 09/12/21, or as the situation changes.'
