A Chesterfield Nurse has broken a Guiness World Record.
At the Berlin Marathon on Sunday, Joan Pons Laplana completed the fastest marathon dressed as a Christmas cracker. It took the runner 3 hours, 55 minutes and 36 seconds.
In the space of a year, Joan has ran four marathons and broken three world records.
He started running after suffering from PTSD during the pandemic – when he began treating Covid patients on an intensive care ward.
Joan said: "After three years of trying to find a stable job as a nurse in Spain, I decided to pursue my dream of working in the UK. I landed in Luton on Bonfire night with £50 in my pocket and a suitcase full of dreams.
"I am one of the thousands of overseas nurses who settled in Great Britain in search of professional stability that they could not find in their own country. It has been more than twenty years since I joined the NHS."
The nurse has also been shortlisted for the prestigious Patient’s Choice Award organised by the Royal College of Nursing, where the winner is decided by the public.
