MP's will return to Westminster tomorrow to debate the government's response to the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan.

It follows the Taliban's rapid advance across the country and recent invasion of the capital Kabul.

Chesterfield's Labour MP Toby Perkins will be one of those making the trip to London:

"The scenes that we've seen with the Taliban in the presidential palace in Kabul are just appalling.

"I look forward to hearing what the Prime Minister has to say on Wednesday in Parliament, along with the Foreign Secretary, if he returns from his holiday in time.

"The Taliban being in Government means that much of the social reforms that have taken place in Afghanistan will be lost.

"Things like the right for women to get an education and the right for women to decide who they want to marry will be overruled if the Taliban are once again in charge.

"We have a big responsibility to help those who've worked with the western world to try and secure a better future for Afghanistan.
