Chesterfield FC and Notts County battle for League Two spot

Both Chesterfield FC and Notts County will be looking for a win at Wembley today in the National League Play-off Final.

The Spireites will be taking on The Magpies at 3:30pm, with the winner joining rivals Wrexham in League Two.

Notts County V Chesterfield - The season

It's likely to be a close game, with both teams doing well this season.

Notts County finished second in the league with 107 points, while Chesterfield FC finished third with 84 points.

Notts County only lost three games all season, scoring 117 goals, meanwhile Chesterfield lost 12 games and scored 81 goals.

When the two teams met in the league this season they were both close games, in August 2022 they drew 2-2, when they met again in February Notts County won with the game ending 2-1

History of the clubs

Both sides have a rich history and both have only been out of the football league for less than 5 years.

In 2018, Chesterfield FC were relegated from League Two for the first time ever since becoming a club in 1866.

A year after, Notts County were relegated to League Two, the first time in their 157-year history.

Both teams have played at Wembley before, Chesterfield lost 3-1 to Peterborough in 2014 in the Football League Trophy.

Notts County lost in the National League play off final in 2020 against Harrogate Town, 3-1. This match was behind closed doors because of the pandemic.
