Women and men are speaking out against spiking by boycotting nightclubs tomorrow as part of 'The Big Night In' organised by dozens of young people around the UK.

While the issue has affected men as well, it seems that a breaking point has now been reached, with women now in a position where they don't feel safe on nights out. Students in unfamiliar cities have raised the red flag, and want more to be done to protect them.

It comes after there have been reports of spiking's around the country not only through drinks but injections too. While experts have said that the issue isn't likely to be happening on a wide scale, it has caused a great deal of concern for people who are unsure on what they should be doing to protect themselves.

Some young people are wearing denim jackets to combat people trying to push the needles into their skin.

Recent University of Derby graduate Ruth Croft had a friend who was spiked at university, and had to take her to A&E. She said:

"We were still in the club when we noticed because she just seemed suddenly really really drunk. Her eyes were rolling back into her head and she couldn't talk to us. She said afterwards that she wanted to talk to us and was trying to tell us something was wrong but couldn't get the words out."

"This guy had actually passed her whatever it was by kissing her. It wasn't like he had put it in her drink or anything, and I think that's what made the situation more scary because she was just doing what a lot of people do on a night out."

"It was something I'd never had to deal with in person before but we took her to A&E and she was completely fine in the end, but I do know that it affected her pretty deeply afterwards."
