Buxton Opera House marks 120 years
The venue is one of the most popular in Derbyshire
It’s the 120th birthday of one of Derbyshire’s biggest attractions.
Buxton Opera House opened on June 1st 1903, situated right next to the famous Pavilion Gardens.
Designed by architect Frank Matcham and heralded as a masterpiece of Edwardian construction, it spent some years operating as a cinema before being restored as a theatre in 1979.
It now hosts around 450 shows per year as well as staging feature performances each summer for the Buxton International Festival.
