As plans for the funeral of The Queen have taken shape, many special events have been hastily planned around Derbyshire.

Patrick Coleman, vicar at the Church of St Mary and All Saints at Chesterfield, says Saturday afternoon's service will provide an opportunity to pay tribute to Her Majesty's life of service and dedication:

"It'll be about remembering and bringing together feelings and thoughts, but it will also deal with thoughts people may have about where we go next. All of that will come together."

The vicar goes on to say that being able to lay flowers and sign a book of condolence is important, especially given the circumstances.

Rev. Peter Robinson at Derby Cathedral says a special service planned for 5.15pm on Sunday will help many people coming to terms with the news of The Queen's passing:

"There's something about being with others at a time like this. We hope people will come with friends and family to spend time reflecting.

"It's really important in how we process our grief. We give a focus and space to bring flowers, light candles or leave messages."

Elsewhere in Derbyshire, Buxton Methodist Church on Chapel Street are holding a thanksgiving service on Sunday at 3pm, and St. Oswald's Church Ashbourne will hold a commemoration service from 6.30pm Sunday evening.

Many supermarkets are planning to close on Monday, the day of the funeral. Banks and Post Offices will also shut with the day being a public holiday, though a number of pubs will open with some screening the televised funeral events.

Theme park Alton Towers will close, and many of our area's councils will scale back their usual services and bin rounds which are normally scheduled that day. Collections will either take place before or after Monday September 19th.
