Vandalising youths in Annan targeted North Surgery in Annan twice within a few days last week.

Last Thursday, a group of young people were photographed damaging the rooftop.

Whilst the medical practice was waiting on the roofer to repair the mess, over the weekend, around 15 other slates were found broken.

Manager Stephanie Parnell says the estimated cost is more than £1,000 and will cause the insurance premium to go sky-high.

This isn’t the first time this has happened she points out: “It’s going to be an expensive time for us and we’ve no guarantee that this isn’t going to continue. This is the third year we’ve had this issue. In previous years, we’ve had youths climb up on the roofs and damaged parts”

She adds that she wants the vigilantes to be careful because if they fell or got hurt, it would be the same services they are destroying who would help them.

‘It’s very disheartening’

“To know that people who are probably patients at this surgery or Green Cross South are causing this kind of mindless damage without actually appreciating the level of stress they are causing. It’s just so disheartening, it’s very sad.

“When I got into work, I had a look at the damage and arranged for a roofer to come out and repair the damage, but unfortunately, before the roofer could get here over the weekend, the youths had gone back out onto the roof and damaged around another 15 tiles.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.55pm on Saturday, 7 September 2024, we were called to a report of anti-social behaviour in the Greencroft Wynd area of Annan.

“Officers attended however there was no trace of anyone in the area. Enquiries are ongoing.”
