A number of cars have been left stranded on a major route through Cumbria following heavy snow.

The A66 is closed in both directions - between the A67 (Bowes) and the A685 (Brough).

We're told a number of vehicles are stranded in heavy snow.

Highways bosses say they're working to clear the snow and recover broken down vehicles, but expect the road to be closed for some time yet.

Elsewhere, the A592 Kirkstone Pass is closed due to snow between Troutbeck and Hartsop.
