Second boy who got into difficulty in the River Eden dies

A second boy who got into difficulty in the River Even in May has died, police have said.

A full search operation was launched on the 27 May, after two boys got into difficulty in the water near Rosehill, Carlisle, with two other boys managing to get out of the water safely.

A short time later, the body of Lewis Michael Kirkpatrick was recovered, with a second teenager being rescued and rushed to hospital.

Cumbria Police have now confirmed that the 14 year old, who hasn't been named, passed away in the early hours of this morning.

In a statement, the force said: "Police can confirm that a second boy has sadly died following an incident where a group of teenagers got into difficulty in the River Eden at Carlisle on 26 May.

"The 14-year-old passed away in medical care in the early hours of today (15 June)."

A file has now been prepared for the coroner
