Lake District Mountain Rescue teams urge walkers to go prepared this bank holiday
A quarter of call outs for the team are because people get lost.
The Lake District Mountain Rescue team are urging people that are planning to hit the fells this bank holiday to make sure they are prepared for the conditions, and know where they are going.
It comes as a quarter of call outs for the volunteer team are due to people losing their bearings and becoming lost.
Richard Warren is an officer for the team, he said: "I was up Scafell Pike the other day. It's the highest mountain in England and it's a honey pot for all walkers. There was thousands of them on the mountain.
"A lot of people were extremely dehydrated, tired in the heat, they weren't prepared for the heat.
"The Lake District teams are already on coming up to 300 call outs so far this year. That's an increase of around 23 per cent on last year, which was the busiest on record for the Lake District teams.
"About 25 per cent of call outs is due to people getting lost and going missing. This is very avoidable. Adventure smart is very focused on getting the message out about safety on the mountains."
