Work to replace unsafe concrete panels at The Sands Centre in Carlisle has restarted, after delays caused by storm damage and a change of contractors.

Auditorium roof repairs are now underway, with the event programme set to restart from mid-June next year.

Internal upgrades are also set to be made, with a replacement of the customer seating and upgrades to the back of house.

Events scheduled between February and 14th June 2026 will be impacted.

Ticket holders will be updated directly by Greenwich Leisure Ltd, the Operator of The Sands Centre.

The day to day running of the main leisure centre will not be affected, however.

The leader of Cumberland Council, Cllr Mark Fryer, said: "The Sands Centre repairs have been hit by a series of issues that were out of our control including the impact of Storm Éowyn earlier this year.

“This has caused a number of challenges, but work has now restarted, and we look forward to seeing the works completed. We understand the frustration and disappointment for ticket holders. GLL is working with their promoters to find solutions for the affected dates so please keep an eye out for emails with further updates.”
