Carlisle City council is encouraging people to sign up to keep the city streets safe
Carlisle City council is encouraging people to sign up to keep the city streets safe.
It's all part of Anti-social behaviour awareness week - which is taking place at the moment - and the council are working with Cumbria police to create Safer Streets Officers.
They'll take part in high profile patrols round the city centre - and provide a point of safety or advice for people who need help - or might be at risk.
Cllr Elizabeth Mallinson, Portfolio holder for Communities, Health and Wellbeing, said:
“The Safer Street initiative is part of our commitment to tackling ASB. We are also working with partner agencies to raise awareness of the effects of anti-social behaviour and are also working with communities and schools to tackle the issue.
“The Safer Street Officers will take part in high-profile patrols in the city centre, fully supported by partners.
“They will also provide a point of safety and advice for those who may be more vulnerable or at risk.
“These are really important roles and will provide excellent experience for those looking for a future career in the police service, but may also appeal to those with more experience, looking to top up their income with an interesting and rewarding part-time role.”
Full training and support will be provided. They will always work in pairs and will have direct contact and support from CCTV operators and the Police if they need to report any incidents or concerns.
