Road in Lake District closed due to sink hole

A local authority have confirmed a road in the Lake District is closed due to a sink hole.

Westmorland and Furness Council said the sink hole appeared due to a damaged culvert.

It's affected the U5795 Ings to Troutbeck road, just north of Windermere.

The council said an emergency closure has been introduced and teams were responding.

In a statement it said: "The U5795 Ings to Troutbeck is CLOSED due to a sink hole.

"Our out of duty teams have responded to a sink hole which has appeared due to a damaged culvert.

"An emergency closure has been introduced to make the area safe for our road users.

"Please avoid the area and choose an alternative route for your safety."
