Man arrested after an investigation into abandoned puppies in Cumbria
He was arrested on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering
A man has been arrested after three batches of puppies were found abandoned in north Cumbria in December.
The man, 25, of the Brampton area, was arrested in Canonbie, Dumfries and Galloway, by Cumbria’s dedicated Rural Crime Team with the support of the force’s north Tactical Support Group and Dog Unit.
A search was also carried out at an address in Canonbie.
The man was arrested on suspicion of three incidents of causing unnecessary suffering to protected animals.
Officers have been working with colleagues at Cumberland Council and say three of the puppies did not survive but more than 20 have received treatment and been re-homed.
The man has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
