Police name motorcyclist killed in motorway crash in Cumbria

He died in hospital on Monday after the accident at the weekend

Police have named a motorcyclist who died following a collision on the M6 in Cumbria on Sunday.

Tributes are now being paid to John Stanley, aged 76, from Bradford, died in hospital on Monday (24 April).

Cumbria police are continuing to investigate the collision, which occurred on the M5 southbound between junction 42 and 41 at around 8.10pm on Sunday.

Mr Stanley was the riding a blue motorcycle when he was involved in a collision with a van.

In tribute Johns family said: “The sudden and unexpected loss of John has left a void in our lives that cannot be filled. John was one-of-a-kind.

"He was a husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to all. A very proud Yorkshireman, but an even bigger family man who always put family first.

“John was an adventurer and couldn’t wait to put his boots and helmet on before setting off on a new adventure on his motorbike, a Honda C90 Cub, taking his camera to capture moments along the way to share with family and friends upon his return.

Officers now want to speak to anyone who saw anything. Cumbria Police can be contacted on 101, quoting incident number 185 of 23 April 2023.
