Police appeal for witnesses after an elderly passenger's death in Cumbria

It follows a collision on the A685 near to Grayrigg last month

Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision that happened on the A685 near to Grayrigg are appealing for witnesses.

The collision happened at around 5.20pm on 22nd August and involved only one vehicle – a blue Vauxhall Astra.

The 85-year-old driver and her 89-year-old passenger were taken to hospital.

The passenger - Ronald Simpkins from Yarm on Teesside - died two days later.

The driver has since been released from hospital.

Officers are aware of several witnesses at the scene, some of whom offered help and support to the driver and passenger. They are keen to hear from those people to help with their investigation.
