Police appeal after woman injured on M6 in Cumbria

The carriageway was closed for a time to allow emergency services to deal with the incident

Police are appealing for information after a woman was seriously injured in an 'incident' on the M6 in Cumbria.

Emergency services were called to the motorway near Tebay on Tuesday evening at 9.25pm, with members of the public saying they were concerned for the welfare of a woman.

The M6 was closed in both directions whilst the incident was dealt with - with reports an air ambulance landed on scene.

In an update, Cumbria Police say the woman is now being treated for serious injuries. They said: "Both carriageways were closed while emergency services attended, and the road was reopened at 11:32pm.

"A woman was taken to hospital via air ambulance with injuries described as serious. Officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what occurred."
