It's mainly pensioners who live in the Slipway

There's concerns about residents in a block of flats in Whitehaven, who've all been given no fault eviction notices.

The residents have two months to leave the Slipway after receiving the notices, which are currently legal.

Leanne Cottier's mum has been living in one of the flats there for nearly 20 years, and recently had surgery after being diagnosed with cancer.

She says the majority of people who are living in the building are either vulnerable or pensioners;

"It's like they've all been left in the lurch.

"At that stage of life you shouldn't have to uplift everything and move.

"I just want my mum to feel well and safe, and now everyday she's in tears."

A Cumberland Council spokesperson said:

"We have been made aware of the notice given to residents at the Slipway and we are making direct contact with all impacted residents to provide support as required."

A ban on evicting tenants in England without a reason is hoped to be in place by next summer.
