Maryport burglar jailed for nearly three years
36-year-old Louise Barber targeted two elderly victims
A woman who stole from two elderly people in Maryport has been jailed for nearly three years.
36-year-old Louise Barber of Eaglesfield Street broke into their homes on 8 August, asking them for bus money and claiming to be looking for a friend.
In one address on Camp Street, Barber stole a woman's purse after entering through the back door and asking for bus money, saying she'd entered the wrong property.
On another address on Wallace Lane, Barber used her victim's toilet after she refused, and stole £4.50 that their carer had left on a window ledge.
Barber was sentenced to two years and eight months behind bars.
Speaking afterwards, Detective Constable Alex Chalker of Cumberland CID said the judgement demonstrates how the force "take burglary offences extremely seriously."
"Those who carry out such offences can also expect to face a police investigation and prosecution," DC Chalker added.
