Man who died in A66 collision identified

A 65-year-old man died at the scene last week

A man who died in a three-vehicle collision on the A66 between Bridgefoot and Broughton Cross has been identified.

The collision was reported at 9:57am last Tuesday and involved a grey Volkswagen Golf, a Scania HGV and a blue Volkswagen Caddy panel van.

John Toynbee, 65, of Cockermouth was the driver of the Volkswagen Golf, and was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

The driver of the Volkswagen Caddy van was taken to West Cumberland Hospital for further assessment and has been discharged.

The driver of the HGV was uninjured.
