Man jailed following investigation by Cumbria Constabulary Cyber and Digital Crime Unit

An online sex offender has been jailed following an investigation by Cumbria Constabulary’s Cyber and Digital Crime Unit.
Callum Spedding, 27, appeared before Carlisle Crown Court after admitting a string of charges.
Spedding was arrested by officers in April 2020 on suspicion of making indecent images of children and his mobile phone was seized for forensic examination.
Offences came to light following an investigation carried out by the Cyber and Digital Crime Unit.
Charges followed and he appeared before the court for sentencing today. He was jailed for 31 months.
Spedding, of Ghyll Close, Windermere, admitted the following offences:
- Making an indecent photograph/pseudo photograph of a child.
- Causing/inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity.
- Causing/inciting a boy to engage in sexual activity.
- Arranging/facilitating the commissioning of a child sexual offence.
- Engaging in sexual communication with a child.
- Attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
Speaking afterwards, Detective Inspector Fiona Gray, of the Cyber and Digital Crime Unit, said: “We operate a dedicated team of skilled officers who are trained to specifically deal with these types of offences.
“I can reassure the people of Cumbria that the team is working tirelessly behind-the-scenes to keep children and other vulnerable people safe.
"We will continue to target those offending in this way and bring them to justice.
"I would urge anyone who has concerns about the potential sexual exploitation of a child or other vulnerable person to report this to the constabulary as soon as possible via any of our recognised reporting channels”.
