Man injured in dog attack on Piel Island
Cumbria Police are looking to speak to the owner of the dog involved
A man has suffered what Cumbria Police are describing as a 'puncture wound' in a dog attack on Piel Island.
Officers say it happened outside the Ship Inn pub at around 10.30am on Tuesday 26th August 2025.
They want to speak to a woman wearing black trousers, a white t-shirt and sunglasses, who is believed to be the dog's owner.
A Cumbria Police spokesperson said:
"Police are appealing for witnesses as part of an investigation into an incident where a dog has bitten a member of the public on Piel Island.
"The incident is reported to have occurred on Tuesday 26 August at approximately 10:30am outside the Ship Inn.
"A 30-year-old man was bitten on the leg, causing a puncture wound.
"The dog is described as a black Labrador with a red harness.
"The dog's owner is described as a woman, with shoulder-length brown hair. She was wearing sunglasses, black trousers and a white t-shirt with an image of the sun and waves on the front.
"The owner was in the company of two other women, both believed to be in their late 40s / early 50s and had shoulder-length brown hair. One of the women was wearing a white t-shirt with the words 'feeling fine' in red on the front and black jeans. The second woman was wearing a black and white striped top with a flower pattern. Both were also wearing sunglasses.
"It is reported that none of the women made any effort to engage with the victim and refused to provide their details. The dog was seen to be aggressive prior to the incident and may pose a risk to other members of the public."
Anyone with information is asked to call Cumbria Police on 101, quoting incident number 52 of 26 August.
