Man seriously injured after being hit by car in Carlisle

It happened in the morning rush on Monday

A man has been seriously injured after being hit by a car in Carlisle.

It happened at just before 7.20am yesterday morning on Castle Way, with many motorists on the morning commute.

Emergency services attended, and police say a man was taken to hospital, where he is receiving treatment for serious injuries.

In a statement the force said: "Police were contacted at 7.20am to a report of a collision between a car and a pedestrian in Castle Way.

"Police and NWAS have attended.

"The pedestrian was taken to CIC by ambulance with serious injuries."

Castle Way was closed for some time, to allow investigation work to take place, with traffic backing up around the city.

The road opened up at around 9.35am.
