A man is today starting a life sentence for kidnap and sex offences following an incident in the Denton Holme area of Carlisle.

James William, of no fixed address, was in court for kidnap, kidnapping a person with intent to commit a relevant sexual offence, sexually assaulting a boy under 13 by touching and breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

William pleaded guilty at a hearing on 20th February 2024.

The court heard the incident occurred in August 2022 against a boy.

The 34-year-old must serve a minimum of fours years and eight months before being considered for release.

Detective Constable Chloe King, of Cumberland CID, said:

“William is a dangerous offender who is now behind bars.

“This was a terrifying incident for the victim and his family, and I hope today’s sentence brings them some closure.

“I would like to reassure our communities that incidents of this nature are extremely rare.”
