Man dies following bank holiday crash in Carlisle

A 50-year-old man from the Carlisle area has died following a road collision.

The incident occurred on Monday May 2 at approximately 4pm on Stanwix Bank.

The collision involved a white Mercedes A45, a blue BMW 320d and a black Fiat Punto. All three vehicles were travelling in the direction of the city centre.

Neil Errington, 50, of the Carlisle area, who was the driver of the Mercedes, sadly died in hospital yesterday (May 12).

His family today paid tribute, saying: "Neil was a lovely man who would help anyone he could, old or young.

“He will be missed by many."

The driver of the BMW, a 51-year-old man from Cleator Moor, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing serious injury.

He had since been released under investigation.

Collision investigation officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to get in touch.

They would also like to hear from anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage.
